The Bridge
The connection between the Appian Way and Sessa Aurunca: the Ronaco Bridge.
The Ponteronico Resort takes its name from the famous Ponte Ronaco, which connects the nearby, characteristic town of Sessa Aurunca, founded in the 8th century BC, and the Appian Way built by the Romans.
The Ronaco Bridge, also known as the Aurunci Bridge, was built around the 2nd century AD and consists of 21 round arches, made of brick and latticework, with pillars of opus incertum intersected by bricks. It still retains its paving of Trajan-era flagstones. For those times, the area's topography required a remarkable engineering feat, capable of spanning the wide valley crossed by the Rio Travata. Over the years, numerous tombs dating back to pre-Roman times have been discovered, some of which have been destroyed or incorporated into modern structures.
The "Bridge" (which, according to ancient legend, was built in a single night) can be reached from both the resort and Sessa Aurunca. Ideally, Ponteronico Resort could constitute a new "bridge" between the ancient Suessa civilization and the third millennium.
